Title: Interagency Proposal for Model Privacy Form Under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
Abstract: The Commission, together with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Trade Commission, National Credit Union Administration, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and Office of Thrift Supervision (the Agencies), requested comment on whether the Agencies should consider amending the regulations that implement the privacy provisions of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act to allow or require financial institutions to provide alternative types of privacy notices that would be easier for consumers to understand. Pursuant to section 728 of the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act, Public Law 109-351, the Agencies proposed a model form that may be used at the option of financial institutions for the purpose of disclosure under title V of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The staff anticipates recommending that the Commission, in coordination with the other Agencies, adopt a safe harbor model privacy form that financial institutions may use to provide disclosures under the privacy rules.
