Title: ●Critical Habitat Designation for Cook Inlet Beluga Whales 
Abstract: NMFS is required under the Endangered Species Act to designate critical habitat within 12 months of listing a species as threatened or endangered. The Cook Inlet beluga whale was recently listed as an endangered species, and NMFS intends to pursue rulemaking to comply with the Act by designating critical habitat by October 2009. Because we are required to complete an economic analysis of this action, and require public input early in the process, we intend to publish an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking at this time.
