Title: ●Marine Mammals; Incidental Take of Polar Bears and Pacific Walrus: Southern Beaufort Sea and Adjacent Coast of Alaska
Abstract: We have received a request to issue regulations authorizing incidental take of polar bears and Pacific walrus during oil and gas industry activities in the Southern Beaufort Sea and adjacent coast of Alaska. If finalized, these regulations would authorize such take for 5 years. Current regulations expire August 2, 2011. We would promulgate the regulations under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which authorizes issuance of regulations to allow the unintentional incidental take of small numbers of marine mammals in activities (other than commercial fishing) in specific geographical areas.
