Title: Food Labeling; Serving Sizes of Products That Can Reasonably Be Consumed at One Eating Occasion; Updating of Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed; Approaches for Recommending Smaller Portion Sizes
Abstract: Section 403(q)(1)(A)(i) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 343(q)(1)(A)(i)) requires that certain foods under FDA's jurisdiction bear nutrition information that provides the serving size, which is an amount customarily consumed and which is expressed in a common household measure appropriate to the food. As part of FDA's efforts to combat the Nation's obesity problem, the ANPRM solicited recommendations on ways to amend certain provisions of FDA's nutrition labeling regulations concerning serving size and on other approaches to encourage cnsumers to eat smaller portions.
