Title: ●Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Reclassifying the Western Great Lakes Wolves
Abstract: We plan to propose delisting the Western Great Lakes wolves. Wolves have exceeded the numerical recovery criteria in the Midwest since 1999, and the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan departments of natural resources (DNRs) have had completed and adequate wolf management plans in place since 2001. Reasonably foreseeable post-delisting threats will be addressed by the State plans, and also will be monitored by the Service in accordance with its own post-delisting monitoring plan for 5 years following delisting. This current proposal includes new information (since the 2007 final rule was published) regarding the status of wolves, and addresses the judge's concern regarding the Service's authority to simultaneously identify and delist a distinct population segment (DPS).
