HHS/CDC RIN: 0920-AA23 Publication ID: Fall 2011
Title: Control of Communicable Diseases: Foreign and Possessions Regulations; Nonhuman Primate
Abstract: In this final rule, CDC will amend its regulations related to the importation of live nonhuman primates (NHPs) by extending existing requirements for the importation of cynomolgus, African green, and rhesus monkeys to all NHPs. CDC will also reduce the frequency at which importers of the three species are required to renew their registrations, (from every 180 days to every two years) and incorporate existing guidelines into regulations. CDC will add new provisions to address NHPs imported as part of a circus or trained animal act, NHPs imported by zoological societies, the transfer of NHPs from approved laboratories, and non-live imported NHP products. Finally, all NHPs will be imported only through ports of entry where a CDC quarantine station is located.
