Title: ●Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing Determinations and Critical Habitat Designations for 12 Puget Trough Species (9 Pocket Gopher Subspecies, Streaked Horned Lark, 2 Butterflies) 
Abstract: We will make listing determinations and designate critical habitat for 12 Puget Trough Species pursuant to the Endangered Species Act: 9 Mazama pocket gopher subspecies, the Streaked horned lark, and two butterfly species. The pocket gophers (Thomomys mazama ssp.) live in remnant glacial wash prairie ecosystems in the south Puget Sound region in Washington. Although the common name "western pocket gopher" was once applied to pocket gophers in Washington State, "Mazama pocket gopher" is now used to distinguish this complex of subspecies from the "western pocket gopher" subspecies in Oregon and California. The streaked horned lark (Eremophila alpestris strigata) is also found in the remnant prairie ecosystems and coastal dune habitat, preferring bare ground or sparsely vegetated habitats. The lark's current range includes the central and northern Willamette Valley in Oregon, and the south Puget Sound and coastal areas in Washington. The two butterfly species are Mardon skipper (Polites mardon) and Taylor's checkerspot (Euphydryas editha taylori). The Taylor's checkerspot butterfly also occurs in the glacial wash prairie ecosystems in the south Puget Sound area, with additional populations in grasslands and balds on the Olympic Peninsula, Washington, and grasslands in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, and one population in a recent clear cut in British Columbia. The mardon skipper has a very disjunct range. It is currently found in the south Puget Sound prairie ecosystems and southern Cascade Mountains in Washington, and in serpentine soils and associated grasslands in southern Oregon and northern California.
