Title: Ski Area Definition--Land Uses, Special Uses
Abstract: This final rule will codify a nondiscretionary provision of the Ski Area Recreational Opportunities Act (Pub. L. 112-46). The current definition of a ski area must be revised to reflect that other seasonal and year-round recreational uses and facilities can be authorized at these sites. The current definition implies that only alpine and Nordic facilities and uses may be authorized. This final rule will amend the definition of a ski area at 36 CFR 251.51 to note that, other natural resource-based, seasonal and year-round recreational uses and facilities may be authorized, provided that the primary purpose of the site remains skiing and other snow sports.
