Title: Emergency Action to Close Portions of Federal Waters in the Gulf of Mexico to Fishing Activities in Response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Abstract: On April 20, 2010, an incident involving a deepwater drilling platform occurred approximately 51 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana. Due to the inherent dangers associated with this emergency situation, for both the public and the response personnel, NMFS promulgated emergency regulations to restrict fishing activities in portions of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) affected by the oil spill. Under MSA 305(c), this emergency rule is being terminated because the circumstances that created the emergency no longer exist.
