Title: Amendment 99 to Modify the Maximum Length Overall for Longline Catcher/Processors Targeting Groundfish in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area
Abstract: Amendment 99 would modify current limits on the overall length of Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands longline catcher/processor vessels. The proposed action would establish a process for holders of Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands longline catcher/processor license limitation program licenses endorsed for Pacific cod, to use a newly built or existing vessel greater in length overall than the limits specified under the restrictions of the license limitation program license and the American Fisheries Act. This action is necessary to promote safety-at-sea, by requiring newly built vessels to meet modern vessel safety standards, and to facilitate increased retention and utilization of groundfish catch by these vessels by allowing sector participants to use longer vessels that can accommodate increased processing and hold capabilities.
