Title: Amendment 27 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Snapper Grouper Fishery of the South Atlantic Region
Abstract: In a notice of Agency action published in the Federal Register on December 16, 2011 (76 FR 78245), the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council announced that it would no longer manage Nassau grouper and that the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (South Atlantic Council) agreed to take over management of the species. However, the transfer of management authority of Nassau grouper is not complete until the South Atlantic Council takes action to assume management of the species in the Gulf of Mexico. The South Atlantic Council agreed to take over management of the species in the Gulf of Mexico because Nassau grouper is caught primarily in the South Atlantic region. Therefore, Amendment 27 would extend the authority of the South Atlantic Council to manage Nassau grouper in the Gulf of Mexico.
