Title: Captive-Bred Wildlife Prohibitions; Generic Tigers
Abstract: We will make a final determination on whether to amend our regulations that establish the Captive-Bred Wildlife Registration Program under the Endangered Species Act for nonnative captive-bred wildlife. This revision will consist of removing generic tigers (Panthera tigris) from 50 CFR 17.21(g)(6), resulting in the requirement that operations with this species need to meet all of the requirements under the captive-bred wildlife regulations found at 50 CFR 17.21(g)(1)-(4). Generic tigers are specimens not identified or identifiable as members of the Bengal, Sumatran, Siberian, or Indochinese subspecies. This action would give generic tigers the same level of protection that "pure" tigers receive under the ESA.
