Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Critical Habitat Designation for the Dakota Skipper and Poweshiek Skipperling (Two Butterflies)
Abstract: Pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended, we are required to designate critical habitat, to the maximum extent prudent and determinable, concurrent with a listing determination for the species. We are developing a listing determination for the Dakota skipper and Poweshiek skipperling, currently candidate species, as a separate rulemaking action (see RIN 1018-AY01). The Dakota skipper and Poweshiek skipperling are prairie-dependent butterfly species that occur throughout north-central U.S. states, including Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. They also inhabit south-central provinces of Canada.
