Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Critical Habitat Designation for the Eastern Small-Footed Bat and the Northern Long-Eared Bat
Abstract: Pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended, we are required to designate critical habitat, to the maximum extent prudent and determinable, concurrent with a listing determination for the species. We are developing a listing determination for the eastern small-footed bat and the northern long-eared bat, currently candidate species, as a separate rulemaking action (see RIN 1018-AY98). We will make critical habitat determinations for the eastern small-footed and northern long-eared bats (Myotis leibii and Myotis septentrionalis, respectively) pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. The eastern small-footed bat is found in the eastern United States (26 States) and southeastern Canada (2 Provinces). The northern long-eared bat is found in much of the eastern and central United States, and small portions of the western United States (38 States).
