Title: Petitions to Remove the Eastern Distinct Population Segment of the Steller Sea Lion From the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife; Final Rule to Delist
Abstract: The National Marine Fisheries Service proposed to remove the eastern Distinct Population Segment of the Steller sea lion from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife on April 18, 2012. Based on the information in the draft Status Review, the factors for delisting in the Endangered Species Act, the objective recovery criteria in the 2008 Recovery Plan, and the continuing efforts to protect the species, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries has concluded that the delisting of this Distinct Population Segment, as requested by the two petitions (Washington and Oregon; Alaska), is warranted. The Distinct Population Segment has recovered and no longer meets the definition of a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.
