NTSB RIN: 3147-AA11 Publication ID: Spring 2016
Title: Notification and Reporting of Aircraft Accidents or Incidents and Overdue Aircraft, and Preservation of Aircraft Wreckage, Mail, Cargo, and Records
Abstract:

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued two revisions to 49 CFR part 830.5, which contains notification requirements applicable to aviation accidents and incidents. Operators are required to notify the NTSB of all aircraft accidents, as defined in part 830, as well as some aircraft incidents. The NTSB updated part 830.5 to ensure the section contained correct contact information for the NTSB’s Response Operations Center, as well as to streamline a reporting requirement relevant to certain aviation resolution advisories. Next, the NTSB will propose updates to part 830 to modernize the regulations as needed. The NTSB’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for revising part 830 is a long-term goal, and follows a notice the NTSB published in the Federal Register in June 2012, which indicated the NTSB would review all NTSB regulations and amend them to ensure they are up-to-date, in accordance with Executive Orders 13563 and 13579.
