DOT/FMCSA RIN: 2126-AB87 Publication ID: Fall 2016
Title: Driving of Commercial Motor Vehicles: Use of Seat Belts
Abstract: FMCSA proposes to revise the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs), by requiring that occupants in non-passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) be properly restrained with the seat belt assembly, if so equipped, at all times the vehicles are operated on public roads. This rule would hold motor carriers and drivers responsible for ensuring that motor carrier employees and other authorized occupants riding in the CMV be properly restrained with the seat belt assembly required to be installed under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSSs).
