Title: ●Eliminating the Requirement That Livestock Carcasses be Marked "U.S. Inspected and Passed" at the time of Inspection When Carcasses are to be Further Processed Within the Same Establishment | |
Abstract:
FSIS is proposing to eliminate a regulatory provision that requires livestock carcasses inspected and passed in a slaughter establishment to be marked with the official inspection legend at the time of inspection when the carcass is to be moved to further processing within the same slaughter establishment. This requirement was put into place when it was far more common for slaughter establishments to transport carcasses to other establishments for further processing into primal, subprimal, and other meat cuts and products. It is now more common for slaughtering and further processing to take place in the same establishment. The proposed rule would continue to require that inspected and passed carcasses be marked with the official inspection legend if the carcasses are to be shipped to another establishment for further processing. |
