Title: BE-12, Benchmark Survey of Foreign Direct Investment in the United States | |
Abstract:
This rule amends regulations of the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) to set forth the reporting requirements for the 2017 BE-12, Benchmark Survey of Foreign Direct Investment in the United States. The BE-12 survey is conducted every five years; the prior survey covered 2012. The benchmark survey covers the universe of foreign direct investment in the United States, and is BEA's most detailed survey of such investment. This mandatory survey is conducted under the authority of the International Investment and Trade in Services Survey Act (the Act). Unlike most other BEA surveys conducted pursuant to the Act, a response is required from persons subject to the reporting requirements of the BE-12, Benchmark Survey of Foreign Direct Investment in the United States, whether or not they are contacted by BEA, to ensure complete coverage of foreign-owned U.S. companies in BEA's foreign direct investment statistics. |
