Abstract:
This part establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and prescribes procedures for investigating and determining eligibility to hold the DoD Common Access Card (CAC). The CAC is the DoD personal identity verification (PIV) credential. This part is largely internal. External components are covered in 32 CFR part 161, and DoD internal guidance will continue to be published in DoD Instruction 5200.46, DoD Investigative and Adjudicative Guidance for Issuing the Common Access Card (CAC)” available at http://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/520046p.pdf. Therefore, the Department will repeal 32 CFR part 157. Cost savings are yet to be determined.
