Title: ●Defining "Independent Study," "Standard Curriculum," "Distance Learning," and "Resident Training"
Abstract:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is issuing this proposed rule to amend existing regulations regarding the definitions of "independent study," "distance learning," and "resident training," and to add and define a new term, "standard curriculum." These changes are needed to help VA better serve our beneficiaries by adapting and aligning our course classification rules (those used to approve courses and determine benefit award amounts) with modern developments and advances in the way that educational institutions provide training.
