Title: Allowing Pet Food and Other Uninspected Articles to be Prepared in an Official Establishment Outside the Hours of Operation Under Inspection | |
Abstract:
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is proposing to amend the Federal meat inspection regulations and poultry inspection regulations to allow establishments that prepare uninspected articles, such as pet food, in edible product areas, to conduct these operations outside the hours of inspection. Establishments already are required to address the production of these articles in their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plan, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) or Prerequisite Program to the extent necessary to prevent the adulteration of meat and poultry products manufactured as human food. These regulations were issued before FSIS published its HACCP and Sanitation SOP regulations, when prescriptive regulatory requirements were deemed necessary to prevent the adulteration of meat and poultry products by the preparation of inedible products in the same establishment. |
