Title: ●Abbreviated Framework Amendment 1 to the Fishery Management Plan for the Snapper-Grouper Fishery of the South Atlantic Region
Abstract: NMFS proposes regulations to implement Abbreviated Framework Amendment 1. In February 2017, a standard assessment for South Atlantic red grouper was completed. The results indicated that the red grouper stock is overfished, currently undergoing overfishing, and is not making adequate rebuilding progress. Abbreviated Framework Amendment 1 proposes to adjust the annual catch limits for South Atlantic red grouper in response to the results of the latest stock assessment. The rule would implement a total annual catch limit of 139,000 pounds whole weight (lbs ww) for 2018, 150,000 lbs ww for 2019, and 162,000 lbs ww for 2020 and beyond. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council intends to implement a new rebuilding plan for red grouper through a subsequent plan amendment.
