Title: ●Interim Final Rule to Address Overfishing of Atlantic Shortfin Mako Shark | |
Abstract: This interim rulemaking for shortfin mako sharks implements a management measure (Recommendation 17-08) that was adopted at the 2017 annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas. North Atlantic shortfin mako sharks were recently assessed overfished and experiencing overfishing, and the Recommendation requires member countries, including the United States, to take immediate action to end overfishing of the stock, including release of live sharks, implementation of minimum sizes, and limits in retention of dead sharks. | |
