Title: ●Updates to the Listing of Impairments--Revised Medical Criteria for Evaluating Speech Disorders, Language Disorders, Visual Disorders, and Hearing Loss | |
Abstract:
Sections 2.00 and 102.00, Special Senses and Speech, sections 11.00 and 111.00, Neurological Disorders, and sections 12.00 and 112.00, Mental Disorders, of appendix 1 to subpart P of part 404 of our regulations describe speech disorders, language disorders, visual disorders, and hearing loss that we consider severe enough to prevent a person from doing any gainful activity or, for children who have not attained age 18, that cause marked and severe functional limitations. We are proposing to revise the speech and language criteria in these sections to ensure that the medical evaluation criteria are up to date and consistent with the latest advances in medical knowledge and treatment. The effective dates of the last revisions for these sections are 4/29/2013 (Special Senses & Speech), 9/29/2016 (Neurological Disorders), and 1/17/2017 (Mental Disorders). |
