Title: Enhanced Consumer Protections for Charter Air Transportation | |
Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Transportation (Department) is proposing to expand the channels through which single-entity charter air transportation may be sold while strengthening legal protections for consumers of such transportation by: 1) permitting air charter brokers to act as indirect air carriers when arranging single-entity charters; 2) require air charter brokers, air taxis, and commuter air carriers to disclose certain types of information to consumers, including, as recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the name of the direct air carrier actually operating the flight; 3) enumerate certain types of conduct by air charter brokers, air taxis, and commuter air carriers that constitute unfair or deceptive practice or unfair method of competition; and 4) codify economic authority granted in 1983 to certain providers of air ambulance services. |
