Title: FMVSS No. 124, Accelerator Control Systems Upgrade | |
Abstract:
NHTSA intends to withdraw this NPRM in its entirety. The agency had issued this NPRM to make two fundamental changes to the safety standard for accelerator control systems. One proposed change was to add a Brake-Throttle Override (BTO) requirement. However, since all vehicle manufacturers now have equipped their U.S. vehicles with this technology, the agency has determined a BTO requirement is not needed. Another proposed change was to update the requirements and test procedures in FMVSS No. 124 to address failures of electronic throttle controls (ETC). However, analysis of ETCs, and other types of electronic vehicle components, is an ongoing focus of the agency. |
