Abstract:
This rulemaking would amend 49 CFR 576.5 to require that manufacturers retain certain records containing information concerning defects and malfunctions that may be related to motor vehicle safety for 20 years, while also reserving the right to extend the requirement to 25 years. This rulemaking complies with the requirements in Section 24403 of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act FAST Act and will assist NHTSA's investigations of possible defects related to motor vehicle safety or of nonconformity to the safety standards and regulations. |
