Title: Amend FMVSS No. 141 to allow Driver-Selectable Vehicle Sounds
Abstract:

This rulemaking would request public comment on amending the new Quiet Vehicle Safety standard (Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) No. 141, Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) to allow driver-selectable sounds. NHTSA seeks comment to modify the requirements of the safety standard so that hybrid and electric vehicles can be equipped with a suite of up to five pedestrian alert sounds from which a driver may select a preference.
