Title: Revisions to Transportation Safety Requirements and Compatibility With International Atomic Energy Agency Transportation Standards [NRC-2016-0179]
Abstract:

This proposed rule would amend the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) regulations in 10 CFR part 71 to harmonize domestic regulations for Type B and fissile radioactive material transportation packaging with the 2012 Edition of the IAEA Safety Standards Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material (SSR-6). The NRC has periodically revised its transportation regulations to make them compatible with the IAEA, reflecting knowledge gained in scientific and technical advances and accumulated experience. Compatibility between domestic and international requirements ensures a consistent safety basis for transport. This rulemaking will be coordinated with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
