Title: ●Striped Bass Fishing in the Block Island Transit Zone
Abstract:

NMFS is publishing an advance notice of proposed rulemaking to seek public input on restrictions for striped bass in federal waters within the Block Island Transit Zone. The Block Island Transit Zone is a small area of federal waters between New York and Rhode Island state waters and Block Island, Rhode Island. Current federal regulations prohibit fishing, harvesting, possessing or retaining striped bass in federal waters. However, anglers in the Block Island Transit are exempt from the prohibition on possessing striped bass while they transit the zone, provided no striped bass fishing takes place during transit. Fishing for striped bass is authorized in state waters adjacent to the Block Island Transit Zone, and different state and federal regulations for striped bass fishing in this area may create confusion for anglers. NMFS is seeking public comment to inform our evaluation of potential regulatory revisions.
