Title: ●Framework Adjustment 12 to the Atlantic Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Fishery Management Plan | |
Abstract:
The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council recently took action to modify the Atlantic mackerel commercial fishery closure possession limits under 50 CFR 648.24(b)(1)(i) and under 50 CFR 648.26(a)(2)(i). Current regulations prohibit possession prohibition of Atlantic mackerel after 100 percent of the Domestic Annual Harvest (DAH) has been exceeded. This action proposes to allow a small incidental catch of Atlantic mackerel (5,000 lb per trip) to continue after 100 percent of the DAH is caught instead of prohibiting the possession of Atlantic mackerel for the rest of the year. This rulemaking would increase flexibility to enable the Atlantic herring and small-scale Atlantic mackerel jig fishery to continue operating and earn additional revenue without resulting in an overage of the mackerel annual catch limit. All other regulations in accordance with the current Atlantic mackerel fishery closures and accountability measures at 50 CFR 648.24 and 50 CFR 648.26 would remain the same. |
