Title: Special Flight Authorizations for Supersonic Aircraft | |
Abstract:
Current regulations prohibit overland supersonic civil flights in the United States, but allow flights for the test and development of new aircraft by means of an authorization. The criteria for such authorizations were developed in the 1970s and placed in an appendix to the operating regulations. With renewed interest in supersonic aircraft development, the FAA is proposing to modernize these authorizations by specifically describing the application criteria, providing increased clarity, and designating the contact office within the FAA for applications and information. |
