Title: ●McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program | |
Abstract:
The McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition (McGovern-Dole) Program helps support food security, child development, and education in low-income, food-deficit countries around the world. The program provides for the donation of U.S. agricultural commodities, as well as financial and technical assistance, to support school feeding and maternal and child health and nutrition projects. FAS plans to publish a final rule with comments for the McGovern-Dole Program for purposes of: (1) allowing up to 10 percent of funding each year to be used to purchase local and regional commodities rather than U.S. commodities. The Agency’s changes to 7 CFR part 1599 are essential to USDA’s mandate to implement the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. In addition to allowing up to 10 percent of funding each year to be used to purchase local and regional commodities rather than U.S. commodities, this Act extends McGovern-Dole through 2023. The changes to 7 CFR part 1599 are not expected to have any significant impact on external parties. No sensitive, controversial or precedent-setting changes are being proposed. |
