Title: Mandatory Event Data Recorder Requirements 
Abstract:

NHTSA withdraws its December 13, 2012, notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that proposed to convert 49 CFR part 563, "Event Data Recorders," into a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) mandating installation of Event Data Recorders (EDRs) in most light vehicles. Since publication of the NPRM, NHTSA has evaluated the underlying rationales for the NPRM and decided that changed circumstances warrant its withdrawal.
