View Rule

We would update the rule that directs State fish and wildlife agencies on how to receive funds and implement conservation projects under the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act. Under these Acts, we distribute annual apportionments to States from trust funds derived from excise tax revenues and fuel taxes. In this rule update, we would: (1) Update the rule to include reporting requirements related to electronic reporting systems that are currently under development, (2) address updates from emerging topics or those not resolved in prior rule updates, (3) address topics that we have become aware of based on comments on prior rulemakings, (4) address any changes in law or regulation since the prior rule, and (5) update to reflect changes in WSFR administration. We will continue to work with our State partners when developing this rule to determine best approaches and to gain prior input from pre-rulemaking coordination. The preamble will thoroughly describe all changes, including the rationale for the change and what collaboration, education, and input the Service sought prior to rulemaking. We have and will continue to work with States and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies in developing rule updates.
