The NPS is removing special regulations for boating and commercial passenger-carrying motor vehicles found at 36 CFR 7.1 for Colonial National Historic Park. The NPS will manage these activities in the Superintendent's Compendium, where appropriate, under general NPS regulations in 36 CFR parts 3 and 5. In the Compendium, the Superintendent intends to designate areas where non-motorized vessels may be launched and retrieved. Except for designated locations, the Compendium will maintain an existing provision in 36 CFR 7.1 that prohibits the launching and landing of vessels except in emergency situations. Maintaining this restriction is necessary to protect sensitive archeological resources.
