Title: Conforming the Acceptable Separation Distance (ASD) Standards for Residential Propane Tanks to Industry Standards (FR-6054)
Abstract:

The Acceptable Separation Distances (ASD) regulations, 24 CFR part 51, subpart C, provide the technical requirements for determining ASD from HUD-assisted projects in proximity to hazardous operations of conventional fuels or chemicals of an explosive or flammable nature, including propane. These regulations were developed in 1984 and needed to be updated to reduce regulatory burdens, reflect updates in propane tank design, and conform to industry standards. This final rule allows for unmitigated residential propane tanks that are up to 1000 gallons if the storage tank complies with National Fire Protection Association Code 58 (Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code) (2017).
