Title: Fees for Production of Records; Technical Amendments | |
Abstract:
When members of the public are provided documents under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may impose fees for such services as duplication and searching. The CPSC staff is preparing draft proposed amendments to CPSC’s regulations under the FOIA to allow the CPSC to collect fees that reflect its actual current costs, as well as to add provisions required by the Office of Budget and Management’s Uniform Freedom of Information Act Fee Schedule and Guidelines. The draft also proposes to amend other sections of CPSC’s FOIA regulations to reflect structural changes in the FOIA office; to omit the fee category for the production of records on microfiche, an obsolete format; to codify the existing practice of the General Counsel remanding cases to the Chief FOIA Officer; and to allow for any relevant FOIA exemptions to be applied under 16 CFR 1015.20. |
