Title: Test Procedures for Microwave Ovens
Abstract:

On November 14, 2019, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to amend the current test procedure for microwave ovens found in 10 CFR 430, subpart B, appendix I.  The NPRM proposed to amend the standby mode test procedure by specifying that connected units are to be tested with network functions disabled; and that units with clock displays are to be tested with the display on, unless the display automatically powers off with no user controllable settings. That NPRM serves as the basis for this final rule DOE is working on to amend its test procedure for microwave ovens, consistent with the requirements under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended.
