Title: Update to CPSC Rules for Testing and Labeling Pertaining to Product Certification and Requirements Pertaining to Third Party Conformity Assessment Bodies | |
Abstract:
In December 2017, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued a new version of the standard, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.” The CPSC rules for acceptance of third party testing laboratories is at 16 CFR part 1112 and for testing and labeling pertaining to product certification at 16 CFR part 1107 have incorporated by reference ISO/IEC 17025:2005. In FY 2021, the staff is scheduled to submit a briefing package to the Commission that recommends a direct final rule to amend 16 CFR part 1112 and 16 CFR part 1107 to update the incorporation by reference from ISO/IEC 17025:2005 to ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
