Title: Golden Tilefish 2021-2022 Specifications and Emergency Action
Abstract:

This action would set specifications for the 2021-2022 golden tilefish fishery north of the North Carolina/Virginia border, including harvest quotas for the individual fishing quota (IFQ) and incidental components of the commercial fishery.  The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council's recommended specifications are based on maintaining a status quo annual catch limit.  These specifications would be implemented pursuant to the rulemaking authority in section 303(c) of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.  This action would also address a request from the Council for emergency action under section 305(c) of the Magnuson-Stevens Act to implement a one-time carryover of some unused IFQ allocation from the 2020 fishing year into the 2021 fishing year.  The carryover of unused quota, if implemented, would have a slight positive economic impact to the small number of individuals and businesses that participate in this fishery.
