Title: Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Critical Habitat Designation for the Arizona Gartersnakes
Abstract:

We originally proposed critical habitat for the northern Mexican gartersnake (Thamnophis eques megalops) and narrow-headed gartersnake (Thamnophis rufipunctatus) in July 2013 and proposed revised critical habitat in April 2020. These snakes are found in Arizona, New Mexico, and Mexico and are listed as threatened. On April 28, 2021, we published a final rule to designate approximately 20,326 acres (8,226 hectares) of critical habitat in seven counties in Arizona and one county in New Mexico as critical habitat for the Mexican gartersnake (86 FR 22518). We will address critical habitat for the narrow-headed gartersnake in a forthcoming publication.
