The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) intends to propose amending its regulations to establish criteria for evaluating Grant of Inspection (GOI) applications for Official Import Inspection Establishments. In consideration of food defense, security, and FSIS inspection resources, the criterion would include such factors as:  the availability of trained inspection program personnel to staff the establishment; the physical location of the establishments in relation to other federally inspected establishments; the physical location of the establishment in relation to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection location; whether it is an airport, rail hub, sea port, or border crossing site; the expected volume of product; and the hours the establishment would be operating.
