Title: Energy Conservation Standards for Commercial Unfired Hot Water Storage Tanks | |
Abstract:
Consistent with the requirements under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is examining whether to amend the current energy conservation standards for unfired hot water storage tanks, a type of commercial water heaters, found at 10 CFR 431.110. As a result of this effort, DOE must either propose and adopt more stringent standards or issue a determination that no amendments to the current standards are required. In this case, DOE issued a proposed determination not to amend the existing energy conversation standards for unfired hot water storage tanks, because the Department tentatively concluded that it lacks clear and convincing evidence that more-stringent standards for this equipment would save a significant additional amount of energy and would be economically justified. After consideration of public comments on its proposed determination, DOE will decide how to move forward with the rulemaking. Once completed, this rulemaking will fulfill DOE’s statutory obligation discussed above. |
