DOJ/ATF RIN: 1140-AA49 Publication ID: Spring 2022
Title: Importation of Arms, Ammunition, and Defense Articles--Removal of "Specifically Designed" and Adding in Its Place "Specially Designed"
Abstract:

The Department of Justice proposes amending regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to remove the term "specifically designed” and add in its place the term "specially designed” in title 27 CFR part 447. The proposed rule would make terminology consistent between the U.S. Munitions Import List (USMIL), the U.S. Munitions List (USML), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), as administered by the Department of State, and the Commerce Control List (CCL) within the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), as administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Department of Commerce.
