Title: Electronic Chart and Navigation Equipment Carriage Requirements
Abstract:

The Coast Guard seeks comments regarding the modification of its chart and navigational equipment requirements in titles 33 and 46 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) outlines the Coast Guard’s broad strategy to revise the chart and navigational equipment requirements for all commercial U.S.-flagged vessels and foreign-flagged vessels operating in the waters of the United States to fulfill the electronic chart use requirements as required by statute. Through this ANPRM, Coast Guard will obtain information from the public to inform development of a proposed rule. This ANPRM will assist Coast Guard with determining how widely electronic charts are used, who is using them, the appropriate equipment requirements for different vessel classes, and where they operate, thus allowing Coast Guard to tailor electronic charts requirements to vessel class and location.
