DOE/EE RIN: 1904-AD92 Publication ID: Spring 2022
Title: Energy Conservation Standards for Dehumidifying Direct-Expansion Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems

Consistent with the requirements under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is examining whether to amend the current energy conservation standards found at 10 CFR 431.97 by adopting new standards for a certain category of Commercial Package Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment, specifically those for Dehumidifying Direct-Expansion Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DDX-DOASes).  As a result of this effort, DOE may either propose and adopt: (1) the amended ASHRAE standard 90.1-2016 levels; or (2) more-stringent standards, if supported by "clear and convincing" evidence.  DOE notes that the Notice of Data Availability (NODA) and Request for Information (RFI) published on September 11, 2019, included two categories of Commercial Package Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment: DDX-DOASes and Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRACs) (84 FR 48006).  However, ASHRAE 90.1-2019 subsequently made additional revisions to the efficiency levels for CRACs. Therefore, DOE is addressing those revisions in a separate rulemaking (see RIN 1904-AF01).
