Title: Pesticides; Certification of Pesticide Applicators; Extension to Expiration Date of Certification Plans | |
Abstract:
On January 4, 2017, EPA promulgated a final rule to improve the competency of certified applicators of restricted use pesticides (RUPs), increase protection for noncertified applicators using RUPs under the direct supervision of a certified applicator through enhanced pesticide safety training and standards for supervision of noncertified applicators, and establish a minimum age requirement for certified and noncertified applicators using RUPs under the direct supervision of a certified applicator. Under that rule, state, tribal, and other certifying authorities were required to submit modification of existing certification plans to EPA for approval. EPA issued an interim final rule on December 20, 2021, to extend the deadline at 40 CFR 171.5(c) for approval of proposed certification plan modifications submitted by those certifying authorities to November 4, 2022. |
