HUD/FHEO RIN: 2529-AB04 Publication ID: Spring 2022
Title: Adoption of Updated Accessibility Standard for the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) (FR-6258)
Abstract:

The Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) requires residential structures designed, built, altered, or leased with Federal funds to be accessible to individuals with disabilities. HUD is the standard-setting agency for residential structures. Since 1984, HUD has applied the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) for purposes of the ABA and either UFAS or the HUD deeming notice, which allows the use of the 2010 ADA Standards for Title II of the ADA with a small list of exceptions. HUD is proposing to update and improve the accessibility standard for residential structures that are subject to ABA requirements.
